Broken Chains podcast released

Updated: Sep 28, 2021

I'm very pleased to announce that the wait is finally over. Broken Chains, a podcast on the prison system that I was commissioned to create by the City of Newcastle, has now been released. You can currently listen to episode one and episode two on omny.fm, or wherever you get your podcasts from. Episodes three and four will be released on September 21 and 28 respectively.

It's been a long journey to come to this point. Ironically recording the podcasts was the easy part. Post-production ended up being much harder than anticipated, and was exacerbated further by the lock-down, but it looks like all the effort was worth it. We've already been approved for a second season, and pre-production has just commenced.

On season one we explored the topics of prison labour, life after release, mental health and creating art behind bars. For season two, we'd like to cover how prison impacts on Indigenous and LBGT inmates, healthcare in prison (or rather the lack thereof) and writing to prisoners. If you have any experience with these topics, or you have another topic on the prison system you'd like to talk about, please get in touch, and who knows, maybe you'll be on one of our next episodes.
